e.control™ - increasing energy efficiency, cutting costs!

Conscious use of resources  

The protection of the environment, climate control and the sustainable use of resources have continuously grown in significance in today’s society. In Europe the building sector is the largest source of CO2 emissions, accounting for over 40% of primary energy requirements. This explains the special responsibility being increasingly assigned to those responsible for the planning, erection and operation of buildings in future. According to the study on the prevention of greenhouse gas emissions which the BDI (Federation of German Industries) commissioned McKinsey to carry out in 2007, half of all savings, or over 60 million tonnes of CO2, could be achieved in the building sector alone, with no financial burden for investors.

Around one quarter of this is attributable to building and room automation functions, which represent one of the most important tools for protecting the climate, particularly due to the short amortisation times.


Efficient automation

These functions are described in EN 15232 and sub-divided, in accordance with their energy efficiency, into classes D to A:

Class D corresponds to old, non-energy efficient BA (building automation) systems which require modernisation. New buildings can no longer be built using such systems. Class C corresponds to BA systems which comply with the legal minimum standards. Class B corresponds to energy-efficient BA systems with partly optimized room automation and several special technical building management functions. Class A corresponds to highly energy efficient BA systems with integrated room automation and technical building management for performance monitoring during operation.


Class A with e.control

e.control has always been geared towards consistent energy efficiency and naturally covers the entire functional scope of efficiency classes B and A for all building types and technical building automation systems as an integrated room automation system. Compared to a building of class C, more than 35% of primary energy can saved with an e.control system of efficiency class A. At the same time, e.control is not just good news for the environment but for the operator, too. The cash value of the investment – equivalent to the reduction in the life cycle costs (LCC) – is more than 100 EUR/sqm in the example.
